  • Northern line Bank branch between Camden Town and Kennington will be closed from around 22:00 (Monday to Thursday) from 12 January until late May, while normal service will continue running Friday to Sunday
  • Temporary late evening closure will allow essential track replacement work to be completed as quickly and efficiently as possible, improving Northern line reliability in future
  • Customers are advised to check the TfL Journey Planner or the TfL Go app, as there may be quicker alternative routes depending on their specific journey

Transport for London (TfL) is advising Northern line customers that the Bank branch between Camden Town and Kennington will close at around 22:00 on Mondays through to Thursdays from 12 January until late May, to enable essential track replacement work that will improve reliability in future.

A normal service will continue to run on the Northern line from Friday to Sunday, including Night Tube on the Charing Cross branch on Friday and Saturday nights. Extending engineering hours overnight in the week will enable TfL to carry out track replacement work in the quickest and most efficient way possible, reducing the need for weekend closures and the risk of track failures that could cause service delays or suspensions.

Richard Jones, TfL’s Director of Asset Performance Delivery, said: “We apologise to Northern line customers and local businesses for the disruption that the early closure of the Bank branch will cause. This is to enable us to carry out essential track replacement work to improve the reliability of the line in future and would be very challenging to complete within normal engineering hours. Customers are advised to check before they travel, using TfL’s real-time travel information tools to find the quickest alternative for their specific journey.”

While train frequencies will remain the same as usual on the Northern line from start of service until 21.30 between Monday and Thursday, services will be revised from 21:30 in preparation for the closure, and the Bank branch will be closed to customers from around 22:00 for TfL’s engineering teams to access the track. An additional four trains per hour will operate on the Charing Cross branch during the temporary closure period, and train services on the rest of the Northern line will be revised.
